Halo: The Master Chief Collection Rumor

Shortly after the announcement of Halo 5: Guardians, a rumoured Halo: The Master Chief Collection surfaced and spread like wildfire. Just want to say, nothing has been confirmed. This was being reported my engadget, then IGN, Polygon, and more started picking up this story. But this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors of bringing Halo games to the Xbox One.

Halo-Master-Chief-Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is apparently coming this year for Xbox One and it will have Halo 1, 2, 3 and 4. This collection will not include ODST, Reach, or Halo Wars as Master Chief wasn’t the main protagonist in those games.

This could also be what Bonnie Ross meant when she announced Halo 5: Guardians. She stated that it’s “…a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step.”

Now if you remember back to the NeoGaf leaks from back in January, nut-kernel stated that there would be 2 editions for Halo 2 Anniversary.

  • A Collector’s Edition – access to Halo 5 beta, and
  • A War Collection – which would have access to the Halo 5 beta and on top of that ports of Halo 3 and Halo 4 for Xbox One.

This leaker has been pretty spot on so far. Perhaps this War Collection is actually the now rumoured Halo: The Master Chief Collection. What do you guys think? Perhaps there could be a stand-alone Halo 2 Anniversary and also a Halo: The Master Chief Collection which would contain Halo CE to Halo 4 with a remastered Halo 2 Anniversary.

Rumored Leaked E3 Schedule Lists Halo 5 Tech Demo

With “Judges Week” for E3 going on leaks and rumors are beginning to spill! The following image has surfaced on social media which lists a Halo 5 tech demo and no mention of the repeatedly rumored Halo 2 Anniversary. Keep in mind this hasn’t been confirmed.

For those who don’t know what Judges week is it’s when a elite group of individuals get earlier access to interviews and demos hosted by game publishers at E3 weeks ahead of the conference.

Halo 2 Anniversary must “nail” the multiplayer experience

IGN recently did an interview with Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer during GDC last week in San Francisco, where he was asked what would be the most important feature to him in a hypothetical Halo 2 Anniversary release for the Xbox One.

He replied with

“In this fictitious world where that game existed… it’s an easy answer: it has to be just the multiplayer experience that we all found in that first Halo 2 game. If you think about what happened in the franchise and what were the hallmark moments – when did duel wielding come in, when did another playable character that [weren’t] Master Chief come in?

All the things that you and I know about the evolution of the franchise, if you’re going to say one thing about Halo 2, you’re going to talk about real multiplayer. I think you just have to nail that in just such a fundamentally core way. Frankly [we’d have to do it] probably better than we did with Halo 1 Anniversary. I thought the multiplayer in Halo 1 Anniversary was good, but Halo 1 never had multiplayer in the truest sense, so it always was going to be something different.”

Phil Spencer closed with

“If there were something called Halo 2 Anniversary… I think the multiplayer would have to be fantastic.”

This is definitely great to hear, provided that Halo 2 Anniversary is actually real. It sounds like they want to truly recreate the Halo 2 Multiplayer experience, something we didn’t see truly with Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary. Halo CEA’s campaign was great with the added ability to revert to the original graphics with a touch of a button on the fly – but many were disappointed that Halo Anniversary’s Multiplayer was just re-skinned overtop of Halo Reach, it just didn’t feel right for many and true to the original experience.

What are your thoughts? Did you enjoy Halo Anniversary? What would you like to see if Halo 2 Anniversary was real?
