Xbox One Unboxing Video – Day One Edition

Today, via Major Nelson’s blog, Microsoft released the official unboxing video for the Xbox One Day One Edition. The Day One Edition is for those lucky people who pre-ordered the console immediately as many retailers had a very limited supply. The Day One Edition comes with some exclusive DLC and a unique Day One controller.

Major Nelson walks us through each item that will be included with all versions of the Xbox One, INCLUDING a headset! The headset was previously thought to be sold separately which would have left multiplayer lobbies filled with users talking via the Kinect and whatever extra room sounds it picked up. It’s nice that they included a cheap boom style mic to allow for a more personal chat experience online.

It seems that the Xbox One may be in it’s manufacturing phase so now would be the proper time to get EXCITED!

Xbox One Accessories: Wireless Controller, Play & Charge Kit, & Chat Headset

Xbox has released a brief look at some of the accessories for the Xbox One. The wireless controller, the play & charge kit, and the improved chat headset. Personally, I will definitely be purchasing the play & charge kit. As for the headset, I’ll wait for an adapter to allow for Xbox 360 gaming headsets to work with the newly designed USB port on the Xbox One controller.

Experience the action like never before with the Xbox One Wireless Controller. New Impulse Triggers deliver fingertip vibration feedback, so you can feel every jolt and crash in high definition.Redesigned thumbsticks and an all new D-pad provide greater precision. And the entire controller fits more comfortably in your hands. With over 40 innovations, it’s simply the best controller Xbox has ever made.

Keep the action going with the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit. Recharge while you play or afterwards, even when your Xbox is in standby. The long-lasting rechargeable battery fully charges in under 4 hours. Say goodbye to disposable batteries and having to swap them out in the middle of a game.

Keep your in-game communications crisp with the Xbox One Chat Headset. Hear friends and foes in crystal-clear digital audio. The Chat Headset is designed for comfort during long gaming sessions. Plus, you can adjust the mute and volume settings without taking your hands off the controller.

Xbox One Policy Updates – June 19th 2013

The rumors were true! Microsoft has made the smart business decisions in regards to some rather negative policies imposed by Microsoft for the Xbox One. It was modeled partially after a Steam like platform, but after much community feedback, some more violent than others, Microsoft has retracted and did the right thing!

“So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.”

Xbox One 180 Policy Reversal!

After much backlash from the community and during the thunderous cheers during the Sony E3 2013 press conference it only seemed like a matter of time.

** UPDATE: Here are the updated Xbox One Policies **

Giantbomb broke the news first (giantbomb article) and has since gone viral, crashing the site. Here’s a screenshot and excerpt from the website.

“Multiple sources inform me Microsoft will announce what amounts to a complete reversal on its DRM policies for Xbox One today.

What does this mean?

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

It is unclear what caused this huge change in policy right after E3…”

Microsoft themselves has confirmed that policies have been updated.

“Update on June 19, 2013: As a result of feedback from the Xbox community, we have changed certain policies for Xbox One reflected in this blog. Some of this information is no longer accurate — please check here for the latest.

Here http://news.xbox.com/2013/05/qa is the list of policies as they were before today, but be sure to monitor this page http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update when Microsoft reveals the changes which are scheduled to happen sometime today (June 19th, 2013)

I’ll try and keep you all updated on the changes!

“Halo on Xbox One” – E3 2013 (HD) Trailer – “Halo 5 Reveal”?

Hello everyone, 343 Industries made the trip down to E3 and left us all with our mouths wide open wanting more!! That sounds wrong… but I don’t care!

Halo Xbox One

They unveiled a video showing Master Chief wandering a desert, with Cortana’s chip in hand, and then a massive Forerunner-like beast emerges from the ground. Could Master Chief be searching for Cortana or is the chip just a constant reminder? Only time will tell.

I honestly was expecting a side Halo game like ODST, Halo Wars, more Halo Spartan Assault, maybe even a Halo 2 Anniversary announcement. I had slight feeling that 343 would show a side game and perhaps a very minuscule teaser for Halo 5. I have a gut feeling that this will be Halo 5 as Master Chief has never appeared in a side Halo game (like the ones mentioned before) this appears to be a main story line game.

The game is currently being called “Halo on Xbox One” with everyone assuming it to be Halo 5. But only time will tell. The game will be released on Xbox one in 2014.

The award-winning franchise continues on Xbox One, beginning in 2014. Final title to be announced at a later date. – HaloWaypoint

@Xbox just tweeted linking the video calling it Halo 5. Could this be a typo or just revealing the truth all too soon? Again only time will tell

Halo 4 Turbo, Spartan Assault, & Xbox One Thoughts!

Hello everyone, just sharing my thoughts on a few things: The Halo 4 Weapon Tuning, 343 Industries and Vanguard Games Windows 8 game Halo Spartan Assault, and finally a particular topic in regards to the on-going (but expected) Xbox One and PS4 console war; because ’tis the season for console wars.

Xbox One Reveal: Trailer, Console, Features, & More!

So unless you’ve been living under a rock, the #XboxReveal event took place today at 10am PST and the next generation console from Microsoft was revealed to be the Xbox One.

981397_685645881452857_1897223767_o

They showed off the actual console, unlike Sony did for PS4 back in February this year, and went over some of the hardware, OS’s (yes, multiple, 3 in fact), features, and a few games including the World Premiere of Call of Duty: Ghosts from Infinity Ward.

The conference was only an hour long so I expected to see a condensed line up of video game developers and have the focus directed on the console itself. Microsoft is really making this console your “one” solution for your every entertainment room needs.

In the video I break down the things that mattered to me from today’s events (homage to the great Philly D) including my thoughts on the design, on features that stood out for me, and the major articles published after the press conference concerning the Xbox One’s capability and features; such as backwards compatibility, which won’t be available for the Xbox One, and a Used game/pre-owned fee that will exist as each game is tied to a gamertag.

Not everything was bad news though. The Xbox Friends List will be upgrading to a capacity of 1000, gamer score and gamertags will transfer over, and since each game is tied to a gamertag there is no need for discs after the first usage. In other words, our dreams of a Xbox multi-disc changer are gone and every game will be playable off the hard drive after it has been install (which will be a requirement)

I hope you find the video informative. Leave your thoughts!
